Red Rangers: Defending Nature's Legacy, the Tough Way

Otch Otto has spent decades working in the reality of the “hard” environment filled with trauma and 
suffering: live rhinos with an upper jaw hacked off to retrieve a horn, poisoned carrion, crated pangolin, 
and tonnes of captured abalone and lobster. Depletion of natural resources is happening at alarming 
rates, driven by the planet’s greatest threat: human greed. 
Red Rangers is a handbook on how to win the war against ruthless syndicates, and greedy, heartless 
people who use spears, guns, snares, traps, mines, saws and poison. It is a how to stop the problem, not 
how to make difference. The Illicit Wildlife Trade conduit can be severed at the first link by making it 
intolerable to harvest illegally in the savannahs, jungles and oceans and avoid prosecution. After 
working with green rangers (bush) and marine blue rangers (sea), the author coined the term “red 
rangers”, to aggressively break from conventional ranger work. 
The time is over when we protected nature for mankind; the time has come to protect nature against 
mankind. Extinction occurs in a heartbeat.
